The Effect of Abuse Experience among Military Wives on Depression - Focusing on a Mediating Effect of Marital Satisfaction
Park Mi-Eun

Abstract
This study aims to investigate the effects of abuse experience among military wives on marital satisfaction and depression and verify whether marital satisfaction plays a mediating role in the relationship between abused experience and depression. 196 military wives who live in military apartment towns near the Gyeryongdae area were invested.
The results from the research were 1) the degree of their abused experience, that is, the rate of abusive incidents by husband was 34.2%. It is almost similar with the results of the nation-wide survey by the Ministry of Gender and Equality and Family in 2013. 2) marital satisfaction had a mediating effect in the relationship between abused experience and depression. Wife abuse by husband(independent variable) fully mediated depression(dependent variable) through marital satisfaction(mediating variable) rather than had a direct effect. Finally, based on the findings the researcher recommended that preventive strategies for sustaining the marital satisfaction of military couples related to spouse abuse and depression are needed.
